Prune with sharp shears
Always use the appropriate tool for the job
Prune young trees as little as possible
On any tree, cut away watersprouts and root sprouts
Avoid hedge shears on bushes, except for those trained to formal shapes
Tailor how much you prune any bush to its growth habit
Almost all fruit plants need regular pruning
Don’t cut unless you have a clear reason to do so
Cut all dead and diseased stems back to healthy wood

Winterization TipsGetting your landscape ready for winter in the fall will ensure it looks its best in the spring.

Turn off your irrigation (Open any drains if available)
Drain water out of small fountains
Remove leaves from the lawn and garden
Cut back perennials to a couple inches above the ground
Pull up any annuals or vegetables destroyed by frost
Dig up tender blubs that do not survive the winter
Plant spring blooming blubs
Check and apply mulch to your gardens around perennials and shrubs
Apply an anti-desicant spray to any broadleaf evergreens
Weed your garden beds now
Do not fertilize or prune plants as winter approaches
Use dormant oil on deciduous trees to prevent spring insect damage
Aerate and prepare water run-offs

Check irrigation at least once a month
Check your controller regularly to make sure it is set correctly
Periodically check to make sure irrigation is correctly turning on and off
Adjust sprinkler heads for correct dispersal/flow
Ensure all plants are getting the correct amount of water
Check soil moisture content and adjust irrigation accordingly every two weeks

Check your mower is set at the correct height approx 1.5"-2" inches
Reseed bare spots early fall or spring
Aerate your lawn if necesary
